User Guide

Use this tool to convert a period of time in one measurement unit to the equivalent in multiple units including years, months, weeks, days, hours, minutes, seconds, centiseconds (1/100th sec) and milliseconds. Alternatively you can covert from any combination of two or more units to a single unit or a selection of common 2, 3 and 4 multiple unit combinations.

Time duration is often measured in multiple units to avoid having to read a long number and make it more relatable. For example it is hard to imagine how much of a day would be taken up by a period of 4800 seconds, whereas the equivalent time period of 1 hour and 20 minutes is much easier to comprehend and relate to familiar time periods such as the number of hours in a day.

Single Unit Time Period

This is a time period recorded as a single total value in a single unit of measurement. For example a period of 3600 seconds is the same as 1 hour, or 0.5 day is the same as 12 hours, all of which represent single unit duration of time.

Multiple Units Time Period

This is a time period which is recorded in more than one unit, e.g. stopwatch hrs: mins: secs. msecs. A time interval can be expressed in many different unit combination, typically 2 or 3, such hours, minutes & seconds, weeks & days, or years & months.

When multiple units are chosen as the answer mode, the time period is broken down into a set of numbers for each unit. Except for the last unit, all are shown as whole numbers (integers), with the remainder of time being carried down to each subsequent lower unit. Any remainder left at the end is added after the decimal point of the last value in milliseconds. For example a period of 2.678234 hours would convert to 2 hours, 40 minutes, 41 seconds and 642.4 millisecond.

Alternatively in single units answer mode, you can add any combination of values from years, months, weeks, days, hours, minutes, and seconds units to convert it to a single unit time period.
