This tool will calculate the measurement of a selected dimension for one of the shapes, which is necessary to ensure a rectangular box and a cylinder have the same volume.
Use this tool to calculate the dimensions of a cylindrical tank which is required to replace a rectangular shaped tank or vice versa.
Determine the length of a material supplied in cylindrical form that is required to be moulded into a rectangular shaped material.
Experiment with different dimensions of each shape whilst maintaining an equal volume for both.
The formulas used by this box and cylinder dimensions with same volume calculator, to determine each individual parameter, are as follows:
Lbox = Lcyl · π · øcyl2 / (4 · Wbox · Hbox)
Wbox = Lcyl · π · øcyl2 / (4 · Lbox · Hbox)
Hbox = Lcyl · π · øcyl2 / (4 · Lbox · Wbox)
Lcyl = Lbox · Wbox · Hbox · 4 / (π · øcyl2)
øcyl = 2 · √(Lbox · Wbox · Hbox / (π · Lcyl))
V = Lbox · Wbox · Hbox
V = Lcyl · π · øcyl2 / 4
- Lbox = Length of box
- Wbox = Width of box
- Hbox = Height of box
- Lcyl = Length of cylinder
- øcyl = Diameter of cylinder
- V = Volume of box or cylinder
- π = Pi = 3.14159…
Length of Box
This is the length of the longest horizontal dimension of the rectangular box.
Width of Box
This is the length of the shortest horizontal dimension of the rectangular box.
Height of Box
This is the length of the vertical dimension of the rectangular box.
Length of Cylinder
This is the length of the cylindrical shaped object.
Diameter of Cylinder
This is the diameter of the cylindrical shaped object.
This is the volume of the rectangular or cylindrical shaped object. The volume will be calculated as soon as all the dimensions for either the box or the cylinder have been fully entered. If all dimension inputs have values, then the dimensions of the box will be used to calculate the volume. If you would like to use the dimensions for the cylinder rather than the box, simply clear one of the box dimensions, and the tool will automatically allow the cylinder dimensions to be entered instead.
