User Guide

This calculator is used to determine the total length of an item from the total mass measured with a specified linear mass density. Along with the calculated total length, a conversion scale showing a range of mass versus length with a fixed linear mass density, will also be drawn to relate to each calculated result.

Formula

The formula used by this calculator to determine mass from length and linear density is:

L = m / λm

Symbols

  • L = Total length
  • m = Total mass
  • λm = Linear mass density

Total Mass

Enter the total mass of an item and select the applicable mass measurement units.

Linear Mass Density

Enter the amount of mass per unit length of the item which has been measured, and select the appropriate units for mass and unit length.

Total Length

This is the total length of the item measured, and the value is calculated once you have selected the required length measurement unit.
