User Guide

This calculator is used to determine the total mass of an item from the total length measured with a specified linear mass density. Along with the calculated total mass, a conversion scale showing a range of lengths versus mass with a fixed linear mass density, will also be drawn to relate to each calculated result.

Formula

The formula used by this calculator to determine mass from length and linear density is:

m = L · λm

Symbols

  • m = Total mass
  • L = Total length
  • λm = Linear mass density

Total Length

Enter the total length of an item and select the applicable length measurement units.

Linear Mass Density

Enter the amount of mass per unit length of the item which has been measured, and select the appropriate units for mass and unit length.

Total Mass

This is the total mass of the item measured, and the value is calculated once you have selected the required mass measurement unit.
