We are looking to integrate a pressure sensor into the bottom of a Sonde. The sensor will be used to monitor the water depth in a borehole up to a maximum of 300m. We do not want a backend casing, just separate potted wires will do, so that the electrical connection can be easily adapted inside the Sonde. Also there will be no vent tube running to the surface to compensate for atmospheric pressure so we will need a sealed gauge reference pressure offset of 1 bar absolute to approximate atmospheric pressure.
The IMP pressure sensor is ideally suited for integration within water depth monitoring Sondes deployed in boreholes. Its compact OEM design, featuring an open backend with individual potted wires, simplifies the integration process, allowing for seamless incorporation into the Sonde’s electronic package. This configuration eliminates the need for a cumbersome backend casing, providing flexibility and ease of adaptation within the Sonde’s internal layout.
One of the key features of the IMP for this application is the availability of a sealed gauge pressure reference, offset to 1 bar absolute. This is crucial for compensating for atmospheric pressure changes in applications where a vent tube to the surface is impractical, such as in deep boreholes. This ensures accurate depth readings even when the sensor is completely sealed within the Sonde.
The IMP offers a wide pressure range, capable of measuring depths up to 300 meters water gauge, making it suitable for a variety of borehole depths. Its robust construction, with a 316 stainless steel process connection and a durable aluminum oxide diaphragm, ensures reliable performance even in harsh environments. The use of Viton as a seal material further enhances its compatibility with various water conditions.
The sensor provides a standard 0-5V, 3-wire output, compatible with most data acquisition unit commonly used in Sondes. The wide 10-32V dc supply voltage range allows for flexibility in integrating the sensor with the Sonde’s power supply. The elimination of a backend casing and the use of individual potted wires simplify the electrical connection and integration process, reducing the overall size and complexity of the Sonde.
Furthermore, the IMP‘s high accuracy of ±0.25% full-scale span ensures precise water depth measurements, critical for accurate data collection in hydrological monitoring and research applications. The sensor’s ability to operate in a wide temperature range (-20 to +80°C) makes it suitable for deployment in various borehole conditions.
