A seawater compatible liquid level sensor for submerging in a floating dry dock ballast tank and measuring the depth over a range of 0 to 14ft from the nose cone, and sending the corresponding 4-20mA signal through the submersible cable electrical connection.
This LMK 458 submersible ballast tank liquid level sensor which has a nose cone to protect the sensor diaphragm is used to measure the seawater height from 0 to 14 feet to monitor the level in floating dry dock ballast tanks.
The sensor is installed by lowering it into the ballast tank until the nose cone reaches the required measurement point. The measured seawater level is sent using a 4 to 20 milliamp current output signal through the submersible IP68 sealed cable to connected the floating dock monitoring and control system.
A floating dry dock is used to raise sea vessels out of the water so that maintenance can be carried out on the hull of the vessel. The structure contains many buoyancy chambers which are emptied and flooded to sink and raise a docking platform above and below the waterline. The level of seawater in each ballast compartment provides and exact measurement of the amount of buoyancy, so that the whole structure can be trimmed to maintain stability. Ships and boats enter the floating dry dock when the docking platform is below the surface and then seawater is pumped out of the ballast tanks to increase buoyancy gradually, and raise the platform and vessel slowly out of the water.
