Monitor and control water levels in desalination plant tanks with this robust submersible sensor. Excellent chemical resistance and IP68 rating for reliable performance in feed and intermediate water applications.
The LMK 458 submersible level sensor is purpose-built for the demanding conditions found in desalination plants. Its robust construction, featuring a copper-nickel alloy housing and a highly durable ceramic (Al2O3 96%) diaphragm, ensures exceptional resistance to the corrosive effects of seawater. This makes it ideally suited for continuous immersion in aggressive saline environments, guaranteeing long-term reliability and minimizing maintenance needs.
Within a desalination plant, level sensors are crucial for maintaining optimal operational efficiency and preventing costly downtime. They are deployed in a variety of tanks throughout the desalination process, each with its unique challenges.
- Feed Water Tanks: These tanks hold the raw seawater drawn from the source, often containing suspended solids, sand, and other debris. The LMK 458‘s robust design and seawater compatibility make it ideal for this initial stage, ensuring accurate level measurement despite the challenging conditions.
- Intermediate Tanks: As seawater undergoes various pre-treatment and filtration stages, it is held in intermediate tanks. These tanks may contain chemically treated water with varying levels of salinity and pH. The LMK 458‘s chemical resistance, thanks to its FKM seals and ceramic diaphragm, ensures accurate level measurement throughout these intermediate stages.
The sensor’s compatibility with seawater is further enhanced by the use of FKM seals, renowned for their exceptional resistance to the corrosive effects of salt and other chemicals present in the desalination process. This ensures the sensor’s longevity and maintains its accuracy even after prolonged exposure to harsh conditions.
The sensor is supplied with a 15-meter long TPE-U cable capable of withstanding temperatures up to 125°C, providing ample flexibility for installation in various tank configurations and ensuring reliable operation even in high-temperature environments often encountered in desalination plants, particularly in areas close to thermal processes. The long cable also allows convenient connection to desalination plant control systems, enabling real-time monitoring and automated control of water levels throughout the desalination process.
